A contact lens fitting is part exam, part lesson

Contact lenses are fitted to the shape of your eye, so the lenses you wear are chosen by the doctor, not just by your glasses prescription.

A fitting visit comes after a full eye exam. The doctor measures your eyes, picks trial lenses and checks how they sit. If you are new to contacts, a technician teaches you to put them in, take them out and look after them.

  • A full eye exam first

  • Trial lenses to wear for a few days

  • A follow-up visit to check the fit

From first visit to your own lenses

  1. 01

    Step 1: Exam and measurements

A full exam, plus a few extra measurements of the front of your eye.

  2. 02

    Step 2: Trial lenses

You try a pair in the office, and take some home to wear for a few days.

  3. 03

    Step 3: Handling lesson

About contact lenses

Can I wear contacts if I have astigmatism?

Often, yes. There are lenses made for astigmatism, and the doctor tells you at the fitting what suits your eyes.

How long is the follow-up?

A short visit. The doctor checks the fit and asks how the lenses feel, and may change a lens.
